During World War I, six of the eighty-eight airfields built during the war were located in North Texas; they left thousands of pilots and ground personnel to support the US Army Air Service. The Fort Worth Aviation Museum, located on four acres at the south end of historic Meacham Airport, focuses on documenting and preserving the aviation history of Fort Worth and North Texas and showcases the many factors that transformed this area from farming and ranching to one of the most famous. center for aviation in the United States.

The museum's outreach program also provides opportunities to take our stories to other venues and events throughout the year. The Bell OH-58 "Kiowa for Kids" helicopter mounted on a trailer is an experience of more than 40,000 people each year at various public events; although a major storm in June 2019 destroyed the plane, the museum is now working on a replacement OH-58 to carry this prized exhibit.

Star Wars' X Wing Makes History As Part Of Smithsonian Exhibit

In partnership with the annual Bell Alliance Airshow, the Fort Worth Aviation Museum hosts Lockheed Martin's "Discovery Zone," a 7,000-square-foot aviation exhibit and learning center that offers visitors hands-on experience in various aspects of aviation. This year, more than 50,000 visitors passed through the Discovery Zone during the two-day air show at the Alliance Airport.

On a lighter and more festive note, the museum hosts its annual "Hops and Props" on the third Saturday in April, offering airplane, plane and helicopter flights, as well as the option to tour the museum as well as other avi. - exhibitions, demonstrations and activities for the whole family (props).
